Invisalign® Teeth Aligner
Invisalign is a method of correcting different types of malpositioned teeth. The process begins with an office visit to include digital photos, x-rays, and impressions. These records are then sent to a lab and scanned into a special computer program. The program ultimately moves the teeth into the correct position by providing a series of clear aligners, or trays made specifically for the patient. The patient wears each aligner for 2 weeks before moving to the next aligner. The process continues until the teeth gradually move to the desired position. The aligners are clear and very esthetically pleasing.
The advantage of Invisalign is that you can remove the aligners for eating and tooth brushing. Because there are no brackets or wires, you can brush and floss normally, which can help prevent tooth decay and gum disease. The disadvantage of Invisalign is that it cannot correct more involved positioning defects, and the success is determined by patient compliance.
